About Surfacing

Surfacing features a southern sea otter coming up with its catch held in both paws in Morro Bay, California. Sea otters forage on the bottom and bring whatever they find up to eat while floating. In the second before the water clears, the coat shows through a moving skin of light, water beading on the fur instead of soaking through. Photographed in May 2026 from shore, at a distance that left the otter undisturbed.

Every Salt + Noelle wildlife print is documented following the Admire from Afar methodology: telephoto only, no baiting or interference.

Available in various sizes, printed edge to edge on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm. Listing photos include digital mockups to show finish and orientation; they are not to scale. Prints ship unframed and unmatted.

About the Artist

Alexis Noelle Galasso photographs the California coast from her dockside studio at Channel Islands Harbor. She holds one of three Certified Wildlife Steward (CAWS) photography certifications through Sea Otter Savvy, and her work was selected for the Griffin Museum of Photography's 2026 Enduring Ground exhibition. Every print here was made by her, at a distance, with a very heavy lens held very still until the moment came.

Every item in this shop was made by Alexis Galasso, a conservation photographer & marketing consultant at Channel Islands Harbor. Purchases help fund Ocean of Opportunity, her program offering pro bono services to small conservation nonprofits.
